36 Inches of Takayna" is a tactile exploration of the ancient biodiversity found within Takayna’s temperate rainforest. Presented as an 8x8 grid, the work mimics the scientific quadrant, a tool used by ecologists to study and measure life within a defined space. By isolating fragments of the forest floor, the piece highlights the staggering density of the region's micro-ecosystems. The deep, shadowed greens represent the enduring canopy of the North West, while the textured "splashes" of vibrant orange and purple fungi serve as a reminder of the hidden life cycles that pulse beneath the moss. Each square is a heavy, physical relief, inviting the viewer to look beyond the vastness of the landscape and appreciate the intricate, fragile architecture of the forest floor. In a landscape often defined by its scale, this work argues that every inch of Takayna is a masterpiece of evolution worth protecting.
